Some Of The Basics
Electrical system Local voltage is 110 to 120 volts AC.

Siesta time is from 2-4pm and many businesses close during this time. Plan your day accordingly.

Tipping is similar to Canada and the United States - 15% to 20% in restaurants and bars. Baggers at grocery stores should be tipped.

Restaurant etiquette deems it rude to bring the bill until you have requested it. To local culture it infers that the client is being asked to leave. Drinking water is not placed on the table, you must ask for it. All water served to you will be purified, not even the locals drink tap water. Using ‘por favor’ (please) and ‘gracias’ (thank you) goes a long way.

Exchange rates are best when withdrawn from your own account at a local ATM, though international fees may apply. Travelers may no longer exchange dollars in a bank. Exchange houses can be found in nearby towns.

Travelers Cheques require a passport to exchange.

Bank Machines / Automatic Teller Machines are bilingual (Spanish and English) and easy to use, allowing you to easily access money directly from your account or specified credit card. There are four machines in Punta de Mita and on busy weekends they may run out of cash. The exchange rate is usually as good as or better than the banks. Normal service charge is $2 - $5 US dollars depending on your bank and they are generally accessible 24 hours a day.

Water, Fruits and Vegetables Purified drinking water is provided in all guest rooms. We recommend that you wash all fruits and vegetables with microdyn (available at local stores) according to directions before eating.

Medical Emergencies and Pharmacies Punta de Mita has a local health clinic for minor issues. There are three pharmacies in town and English speaking doctors on call 24 hours for emergencies. Puerto Vallarta has several modern hospitals.

Getting Around If you choose not to rent a car, you will find plenty to do in town, all within walking distance. If you want to explore further there are local taxi services, buses (they do not run at night), and the hotel shuttle service (extra fee, based on availability).

Mobility   Please be aware of the challenges Punta de Mita’s cobblestone roads may pose for guests with mobility issues.  Also, our property is located above street level with stair access only.
